Dear Friends i have been out of touch for some time now.
A very hard, dark, cold winter has taken hold of my spirit.
Now with alot of help i am getting it back, ready to take part again
And god how i need a soak.
May 27th is the next work party i would take part in this work party in a big way.
Please if you can, spend the day with us cleaning up the mountain side.
Removing debris from the old Scenic pools & decks.
Please have lunch with us.
Would be camping out that weekend just off the Old Iron Goat Trail old road Hwy #2. driving my Chev. 93 dark blue high top van with BRC on the back & front of it.
if you would like to meet up friday afternoon on the river side of the road.
Hope to see my friends once again.

Re: Returning to Scenic
Sun, May 14, 2006 - 11:29 AMWe're keen to help out on May 27th. IM'd via the link found on the Blogger site where we found out about the clean up date. I've been up there twice, last time just before the big shutdown. Two strong men to help out... have a big work truck and room for one extra person on the way up from Seattle. May have some basic tools to help out... More details please about where to park etc... J.Steve & Brian -

Re: Returning to Scenic
Sun, May 14, 2006 - 1:01 PMHey Robert . . . where the heck ya been? I might drop in on your camp before the cleanup.
J.S. . . . thanks. Here's the plan:
We need to remove all the wood and construction material on the bench east of the pool and the material stashed away near the outhouse. We need to sort the usable stuff in the flat area down from the campfire ring on the trail. Mike has applied for a burn permit so that the unusable stuff can be burned in that open area.
At present, we don't envision moving anything further down the trail for disposal . . . we will wait until the trail can be improved. The idea right now is to return the construction storage areas to a pristine condition. One area that needs to go is that aborted attempt at a tree house, much as my childish-side enjoys looking at it.
If we get enough people, I would like to split up a few and possibly fill in some of the road gullies to make access easier. I haven't had a chance to see the condition of the road without snow cover so I'm unsure of how bad the spring thaw has been.
What to bring:
Yourself, of course. Good work gloves and sturdy boots.
We could use another chainsaw, sledges and matlocks, a shovel or two; study rope to haul/drag to heavier stuff out of the way.
Robert, since you'll be coming do you need food supplies? Another campstove or BBQ?
Parking:
I will be at the gate with Mike. Hopefully I'll be able to do an advance drive up to see how a 2wd can negotiate the lower section of the FS road. If so, we can all park under the power lines. If that is a no-go, then we can get 6-7 cars before the gate and just beyond; the rest will have to park down by the BN staging area (the parking area near the Surpise Creek trailhead (Forest passes required) and we can ferry people up. We'll have to figure that out as it develops.

Re: Returning to Scenic
Sun, May 14, 2006 - 10:43 PMAdded a graphic in the photos area and on the blog showing the roads and parking areas available.
Kimba . . . that little white arrow all by itself on the east high side of the property is the last verified position of the cougar den. I understand you wanted to say hello to Momma Cougar? :-) j/k
Considering it is Memorial Day weekend I am going to bring my grill and a bunch of hot dogs (I can see Robert cringing at the thought right now).

Re: Returning to Scenic
Tue, May 23, 2006 - 4:47 AMHello to all, and N.G. it will be great to see my brother Saturday. There are a couple other items that will be needed. Hammers to remove nails, prybars for the seperating of material and nail removal. Some type of light plastic containers such as a milk carton box, to store the useable plumbing fittings in. Mike has requested that I lead the group seperating the useable material that can be reused in the future construction, from the material that will be burned on-site or removed off the property. Some tarps may also be helpful for storage purposes.
See all on Saturday,
Bear
Thanks to Mike, and all whom love the Hot Springs, Scenic will rise again.

Re: Returning to Scenic - warm afterglow & need to locate tools ASAP
Sun, May 28, 2006 - 7:45 PMWhat an amazing group of people to have assembled... an honour to have worked with all of you!
Thanks for the treats NG - the traditions continue.
One item of biz from Brian: EastWing brand framing hammer (blue handle) and small pry bar (cats paw or wonderbar) both with remnents of hot pink marker paint were brought down by kind folks, but not reunited successfully with the work truck. I'm sure they're in safekeeping, just not sure who might have them. Other tools were located and brought down aok -- glad to have had helpful tools to add to the effort.
Brian needs to be reunited with these tools ASAP - part of his working set of tools - so, if you know, please be in touch ASAP!
Brian's Cell: 206-734-0449 ("Northwest Professional Landscape")
Thanks for the laughs and for sharing your love and history about the springs.
Peace,
J. Steve (aka: nexus) & Brian -

Mon, May 29, 2006 - 12:20 AMThank you everyone who participated. What an awesome showing. I've posted an account to the Scenic Blog (including a few pics) at scenichotsprings.blogspot.com/
I tink I might have the pry bar and claw hammer . . . we were debating them. I will go out to my car and check the tools I collected and contact Brian. Rick -
