Hey, I just found this "Tribe" and I have been searching all I could think of for more information on Scenic. Though my wife and I haven't (and have NO intention of going uninvited!) been there, we would sure like to! How can I get on the notice list to HELP out??
I think I saw that you had a work party today (I found it late and had to work today anyway :(
When might the next one be??

I don't know where this idea of a work party on Aug the 7th came from but it is bogus information. I believe I met you on the trail today, Dale, though where the idea that today would have also been a work party came from, I have no idea. If it wasn't you, someone else is using that excuse.

Something bothers me.The follow on group also used the excuse that they were up there to cleanup the trail and I thought to myself as I was hiking down that it was too coincidental . . . two different parties carrying trash bags to pick up stuff? Convenient excuse in case challenged? There was also a lot of name-dropping going on . . . "Oh, Mike said it was okay". When was that? Last year? Were you at the last cleanup party? Do you have a 'permission card'?

I talked with Mike for over an hour after that. Lots of people he doesn't recognize and he doesn't remember the vehicles. Mike drove up to the springs to wait at the gate . . . mainly to make sure no one tried to sneak in after dark. But I suspect he was interested in those who dropped his name. Come on folks . . . be honest. Respect and attitude counts more than anything else, but stories of clean-up parties (and signs in the car windows) kind of peeve me off and I'm just gonna start turning people around that are not on the list I carry.

The only place where clean up parties are officially announced is at scenichotsprings.blogspot.com The next clean up party won't be till September or so . . . we are still waiting for the land use permits and can do nothing without them.

On the different tack . . . to the couple I met up at the springs (the jeep Cherokee at the gate) and the Harley hog illegally parked up on the BPA road. Don't bother coming back to the hot springs. You are banned (Mike concurs). The activities of the past are over. Scenic will become family-friendly whether you like it or not. When I came over the rise above the springs, I could have quietly sat there and taken picture after picture in glorious detail . . . so engrossed you two were. Instead, I hope I embarrassed you enough with the 'Come on kids, this isn't the place for a 'b***j**'. I spent the next two hours emptying the pool and scrubbing it down after I suggested you leave.

      Well Rick,
Let me just try and set your record staight, It ABSOLUTELY was NOT me or my wife!!!!
As I stated BEFORE, my wife and RESPECT the restrictions that have been put in place and have NO INTENTION of challanging them!!!!!!! If you check the FRONT PAGE of this "Tribe" and read it you'll find out where the "Idea" came from! As I also posted I was at WORK on the 7th and wouldn't have been able to get there if it was a real day for one!!!

Now, I also have to apologize for the tone of my response! We are out of town to be with my mother-in-law as she passed away Saturday. So I am not in a very good state of mind to have responded. I am Sorry!

I posted my topic to try and find out HOW we might GET permission to visit. We are not going to even try and find the place without it! So, if that was to much to ask for then, I guess we just WON'T be going there at all and I will NEVER bother you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      Thank you!

Jeez Rick, that was a bit of an over reaction, don't ya think?
Dale sounds very respectful and had an honest question. After all, the Tribe summary does say a work party scheduled on Aug. 7th.
The name of this Tribe is "Friends of Scenic Hot Springs" right?... and hopefully everyone on here, like me, is waiting to put in some volunteer work to one day again enjoy the hot springs. I don't think your tirade falls on the appropriate ears here.
      Respectfully,
      Jaysun

What a shame, Dale. Reconsider. Scenic IS worth it. Sounds like Rick had a bad hair day; they CAN happen. I am sincerely sorry for the loss of your mother-in-law, and I offer my condolences. It must be a difficult time for you. If Scenic is out for the time being, I recommend a soak elsewhere: anywhere that will have you. These are trying times, and a soak really is what you need for what ails you.... It will soothe your savage beast. Rick, perhaps you could speak to this fella offline?

        Actually, I will answer online . . .

Over-reaction . . . possibly. I had to click on more to get to the part of the tribe summary that said Aug 7th. So that is the source of all this confusion. Robert? You need to correct this as you are the owner/mod of this group. Aug 7th of 2004, the first clean up event the Friends of Scenic had and it has never been changed in the Tribe summary; so I do owe an apology to Dale and any others that chanced on that hidden little piece of information. You are correct. It was posted. Unfortunately, I didn't come across it soon enough before I set into some people. For that, I apologize.

Dale (and I will post this message directly to you as well as publically), please accept my apologies. I came down off that mountain the other day frustrated and more than a little angry at the inability to keep large numbers of people I do not know, away. Not knowing of that tiny little snippet of info in the Tribe Summary (and not seeing any posts to the same effect, I drew the conclusion that I was being had by these two groups wandering up to the springs. Then I saw your post on Tribe and connected it with the people I had met.

So you are right to feel insuulted and abused by me. I was wrong . . . engaged my mouth before thinking. You trully believed a work party was happening . . . and so did those other groups I encountered. Give Scenic another chance and accept that I can make an ass out of myself on occasion.

To everyone on this Tribe . . . Robert formed this group in the hopes of keeping the love for Scenic going. Now that Scenic has a new owner, this is still a valuable resource . . . as Robert has intended. I'm heavily involved with the bureaucratic machinations of getting Scenic open again. I maintain the Scenic blog and organize the work parties when they are needed. Believe me, neither Mike nor myself had scheduled any clean up parties for August (the 7th or otherwise). This past week (and this week) we had several on-site inspections by the county. So please, everyone. scenichotsprings.blogspot.com will have any scheduled happenings posted and I will personally email (or call) everyone who has indicated a willingness to participate in a clean-up well in advance. If you want to participate contact me personally so that I at least know what is going on. This Aug 7th thing caught me completely by surprise . . . that and the explicit porno show in the pools. Yes, I had a bad hair day and I can ill-afford to lose any more hair.

Thanks, Rick, for your measured response and explanation. Public apologies are a sign of a big person. I think had I stubmbled upon the scene you described in your earlier text, I, too, would have been bent out of shape. It simply was a case of mistaken identity.

One thing we need to keep in mind: FRIENDS of Scenic, whether new or old, are a good thing. It's the enemies we want to stave off from this scared spot. We know who we are by our actions. People who engage in public sex scenes in and around the pools make it less hospitable and SAFE for the rest of us: that makes them enemies, whether intentionaly or otherwise. Invoking the golden rule is a good way to measure the friendliness of a chosen activity. And, morality is when you make the right choice whether anyone is watching or not. Do the right thing; it builds moral character. Save the sex stuff for private times and places. Scenic is sacred for a lot of reasons, one being it has a lot to offer in the group setting. Just becasue you are there first doesn't mean you are going to be the only one to come by. Act like everyone has already arrived, and you will more likely be acting like a FRIEND, not a foe.
          Long live Scenic!
